Scrounger is a post-apocalyptic survival rogue-like. Youou play as a little guy trying to gather food and ammo to survive as long as possible in the post-apocalypse.
This was the first game I made entirely by myself.
The design of the game is simple, but I really enjoyed learning to do pixel art animations.
I studied some basic animation concepts, and did everything pixel by pixel, frame by frame.
Levels were procedurally generated out of some basic house items. You could move furniture around to block doors, and loot containers for goodies.
It was fun to create the rules for the procedural generation, like drawers always being back to a wall and door placement to connect rooms.
And it got featured in an indie game website, so I got to see a lot of people trying it and being tortured by it. I have learned so much about game design since, that watching these makes me cringe a bit.
I would like to someday go back and make a new take on this concept, with way easier controls, for mobile. But I guess that’s the life of a creator, everything is outdated the moment it’s finished, and could always be better.
